Darby Field Inn
185 Chase Hill Road, Albany, NH 03818
13 - 3 Kings, 10 Queens Rooms
850,000
The Inn was originally built as a Farmhouse with over 430 acres more than 190 years ago. The Shackford Family would rent rooms to summer guests to supplement their income and therefore the Inn has a long tradition of hospitality. Later known as the Bald Hill Inn the name was changed in the early 1970’s to honor Darby Field.
Darby Field, born in England, settled in Durham NH. In 1642 when 32 years old he became the first European to climb to the summit of the White Hill, now known as Mt Washington. He was accompanied by two Indians for an 18 day journey up the Saco River and to the summit of the mountain. His journal was surprisingly accurate as to distances and description of the summit.
The current owner’s, the Donaldson Family, purchased the Inn in 1979 and have continuously operated the inn since the purchase over 40 years ago.
The Inn enjoys a spectacular location with 3.01 acres overlooking the White Mountains of New Hampshire. A quiet setting on a mountain side but within minutes of all activities of the Mt Washington Valley, be sure to hit the link to the many area attractions, skiing, hiking, fishing, and events of the area here on our web site.
The 13 spacious rooms are decorated in a distinctive style all with full bathrooms, some with 2-person whirlpool tubs, gas fireplaces or balconies. The cozy tavern offers local brews and is perfect for late afternoon conversations. The panorama from the dining room offers plentiful views of the White Mountains. Additionally, there is a seasonal outside pool, special packages include elopements, intimate weddings, and a host of family events.
As an added dividend an additional .5 acre lot is included with the sale. On the lot is a directional sign on the Kancamagus Highway, Route 112. This parcel also offers frontage on the beautiful Swift River and provides access to the river for swimming, fishing kayaking or just a picnic lunch.
The current operation has been curtailed back as the owners have not needed a full operation. Dinner is served on weekends to quests based upon pre-orders off the Inns gourmet menu. For many years, the dining room was open to all and it was a favorite among the Valley visitors and locals alike. The atmosphere, views and quality of the menu items proved to successfully result in returning guests throughout the year. Although the Inn is still successful a new owner could bring a new enthusiasm and expanded business plan to recapture the dining experience of the past and more aggressively market the uniqueness of the Inn for sale at such a favorable price.
